RESIDENT EVIL 6 PC BLACK SCREEN ON STARTUP INSTALL
Unreal Tournament 3 with foxmod (hassle-free, it's menu mod with tons of fixes), Left 4 Dead 2 with menu mod (hassle free install - one-click on workshop and then split screen will be right in menus). Gunscape has minecraft looks, inspired by older games and even has both 8 player split screen and cross-platform multiplayer with consoles. Hypercharge Unboxed, though you'd rather want to wait until 2.0 update.
Mech League Hunting is pretty fun little game too. EDF4.1 is stupid game that doesn't takes itself seriously, but is great fun with huge levels and tons of enemies, leveling and loot. Contagion is slow paced zombie game that requires more of exploration and tactics than shooting (you'd rather avoid zombies at all in this game). Painkiller HD has split screen coop campaign. Call of Duty WWII and Call of Duty Black Ops 3 - Zombies all the way, BO3 also has coop campaign. Resident Evil 6 (coop campaign and mercs), Resident Evil Revelations 2 (raid mode is addictive af). Multiple mice support too, not just gamepads. If she's a big Star Wars fan, this could be worth looking in to, but otherwise, I'm not a super big fan of this game. Star Wars Battlefront 2 also has some hack for arcade splitscreen play on PC, but not sure the status of the hack. It relies on running two instances, so probably pretty "hacky", but a fun, beautiful game, so worth considering. Love the game, but I am over it having played many many hours before my wife entered the picture, so I have not tried the split screen. I have Borderlands 2 which apparently has a split screen hack. The games I haven't tried are: Call of Duty Black Ops 3 (not a huge fan of the series) and Resident Evil (not into horror). If you end up buying it, let me know and I'll help you with some pointers as it is pretty easy, but there are a few quirks. NOTE: UT3 requires a mod to make split screen work. The simplicity and repeatability helped getting use to the controls and the game style a lot. She can outfit the shotgun type weapon, follow my lead, and blow away enemies with her shotgun without perfect aim. My partner actually liked playing capture the flag in Unreal Tournament 3 against easy bots. And if you play classic style with unlimited respawns, she can just keep respawning. Because this is old school over the top it is pretty funny. I like Serious Sam HD Second Encounter personally - really simple, start in a field, pick up a weapon and the enemies start to come running. Serious Sam 3 has a slow beginning that many don't like, which makes it a bit less fun to start (I would worry about losing interest), but could actually be good for your wife in term of getting used to the controls in a pretty sane environment. You can sometimes get Gears 4 on sale for $20. If it were my partner, that would be overwhelming for the first game of this type, but I don't know your wife :) The quality of the game though (graphics, gameplay) is lightyears ahead of the other ones I note below. pick up this satellite weapon laser pointer and aim at the monster, press this button to bring up this cover, now move over and press this button quickly, etc. You could certainly play on the easy setting and it would be fine in terms of not getting killed all the time, but there is a lot going on, i.e. Gears of War 4 is a great game and well worth buying.
